research interests  (stem cell / neuron differentiation /microrna/cancer)

my research interest lies in understanding the significance of post-transcriptional rna-based processes for stem cell differentiation (particularly in neuron differentiation), microrna regulation and cancer development. gene expression in eukaryotes is subject to extensive regulation at posttranscriptional levels. one of the most important sites of control involves mrna 3′ untranslated regions (3’utr), which are recognized by rna-binding proteins (rbps) and micrornas. these factors greatly influence translational efficiency and stability of target mrnas and often also determine their cellular localization. hur, a ubiquitously expressed member of rbps, has been implicated in regulation of stability and translation of over one hundred mrnas in mammalian cells. hur involves control of apoptosis, hormone responses, stress tolerance, differentiation, metabolism and development etc.

 

ph.d. research topic

establishment of symbiosis between certain host plants and nitrogen-fixing bacteria depends on type 3 secretion system (t3ss) effectors. nopt is a novel t3ss effector of rhizobium sp. strain ngr234. nopt possesses autoproteolytic activity. this functional protease activity leads to symbiosis-promoting on phaseolus vulgaris cv. yudou no. 1; tephrosia vogelii while deleterious effects upon crotalaria juncea.
