德国康斯坦茨大学生物系知名教授，1971年毕业于德国歌廷根大学微生物学系。主要从事分子植物病理学和分子细胞学的研究。1999-2001曾任《molecular plant-microbe interactions》杂志编委，1987-今任《physiological and molecular plant pathology》杂志编委。
主要研究方向：（1）真菌侵染和锈菌中的活体营养；（2）普通芦苇相关真菌多样性及其在芦苇群落的建立和衰落中的作用；（3）火疫病的生物防治机制。
在applied and environmental microbiology, molecular plant-microbe interactions, nature, plant cell, plant physiology, planta, proceedings of the national academy science of the united states of america, science, the plant journal, trends in plant science等许多著名国际学术期刊上发表了200多篇研究论文和评论。
